Travel Basketball

Tryout Schedule  Registration/Fee

HYAA offers girls and boys in grades 4-8 the opportunity to play travel basketball, which is more competitive in nature than our in-town program is designed to be.

All players who participate on a travel team MUST also register, pay and participate in the in-town recreational league. All players wishing to tryout for Travel, must be registered for in-town Basketball to be eligible to tryout. Unregistered players will not be permitted to tryout. Travel teams are selected following tryouts.

Travel Basketball Tryouts

The purpose of the tryouts is to select two teams per grade to compete against other South Shore towns. Travel basketball requires substantial commitment and these are competitive teams. Teams will play approximately 15-30 games and have 1-2 practices per week starting in October and up through the end of March. In addition to the regular season league games, teams do play in various tournaments, which usually are during school vacation weeks.

Tryout format

A panel of three independent assessors will be at tryouts to evaluate participant skills.  No parents/guardians are allowed in the gym while the tryout is taking place. If numbers permit, we will “field” two teams for each grade. Team roster sizes will be determined on a grade-by-grade and team-by-team basis.  Team rosters will be posted on the HYAA website, under the "Travel Basketball" section.  Teams are normally posted on the 2nd Saturday following the respective tryouts.

Travel basketball is competitive by nature. Given limited resources, we cannot accommodate all players interested. There will more than likely be cuts at each grade level. Please discuss this with your son/daughter before they tryout. Please keep in mind that a separate registration fee and uniform costs of approximately $200 to $350 is required from those who participate in the travel program
