HYAA offers recreational, developmental, in-town field hockey program for players in K-8th grade.
The Hanover field hockey program is organized into three age divisions (based on players grade level entering in the fall school year): K-2nd grade, 3rd and 4th grade, 5th through 8th grade. Please see below for each division’s overview. All fall skills and practices will be held at a location TBD.
Equipment and Schedules
Sticks and shin guards are mandatory for each player and will be provided by parents. Mouth guards are highly recommended for grades 3 and up. The program will provide balls and other essential equiptment. Field hockey begins in September and will run through the end of October.
Uniforms
HYAA will provide Hanover Field Hockey Shirt and Hanover Headband for each registered player.
Players should wear their own pants or shorts. Cleats can be worn however, sneakers are recommended on the turf field.

All divisions will focus on learning the game of field hockey and developing skills through practices and intramural (in-town only) games.
K - Grade 2
At this age level players developing the fundamentals of the game including stick handling and hand/eye coordination. Your athlete will have a great time while learning how to safely enjoy field hockey through drills and scrimmages. There will typically be 1 practice per week at this age level.
3rd-4th Grade Division
Players in this division will typically have between 1-2 practices per week. Our main focus will be on teaching the rules and regulations of the game in a fun and engaging manner. There will be in town intramural scrimmages at this age level.
5th through 8th Grade Division:
Players in this division will typically have 1-2 practices per week. We will be introducing additional strategies of the game at this level and focusing on the importance of being part of a team. At this time we do not offer games against other towns but we will hold intramural scrimmages.

2021 Summer Drop in Program
The Hanover Field Hockey program will hold free weekly drop in skills sessions for players who are interested in playing. The session will take place during the month of August on the following Monday evenings: 8/2, 8/9 & 8/16.
Sessions for players going into grades K-4:
Hanover High School Turf field 6:00pm - 7:00pm
Sessions for players going into grades 5-8:
Hanover High School Turf field 7:00pm - 8:00pm
Please be sure to have the players wear sneakers as cleats cannot be worn on the turf field. In addition we recommend bringing shin guards and a stick. The intent of these sessions is to introduce the sport to your athlete with fun drills and relays before kicking off our first fall season.
